Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort Food Forest - Leavenworth, WA
This food forest was designed to provide food and herbs for the resort’s restaurants, bar, and spa, while also being a publicly accessible garden for guests to enjoy. Starting from bare soil that had been a fallow vegetable garden for several years, we created pathways with woodchips and logs, built a deer fence to protect the young plants, and constructed trellis shade structures of Black Locust logs harvested on-site. We planted over 30 varieties of perennial food- bearing trees in addition to various shrubs, vines, ground cover, and herbaceous plants. We also scattered wildflower, vegetable, and medicinal herb seeds all throughout the food forest. Over the following years as the seeds germinate and the plants mature, the goal is that this becomes a self-regenerating and richly biodiverse food producing garden that will feed humans and wildlife for generations to come.
