East Leavenworth Raised Garden Beds
Raised beds with a view! Built these cedar board beds with the bottom filled with old punky firewood, the rest with garden soil, and topped with some poopy straw gathered from a local animal sanctuary. The wood will break down to feed the soil and become a sponge for water. The straw will provide protection from sun and wind while also breaking down to feed the soil. Next steps: plant some garlic to grow over winter, some wildflower seeds to come up in spring, and wait out the winter to plant the herbs, veggies, and fruits in spring.
The rest of the landscape is set to be planted with fruit trees, nut trees, and a variety of native plants next fall!
